The Smart Packing Lady

New Discovery for a Postmenopausal Traveler.

So it goes like this…

Up early, ready to see the sights of a new city. What is the weather at your location? Dress accordingly, preferably layers.

Slacks, comfy shoes, top, cover up (sweater, light rain jacket, a shawl). Then, a purse for chapstick, identification, Kleenex, maybe breath mints or dental floss, Ibuprofen, ear buds, tickets, the walking map??? And as always, my beloved camera.

And so the day goes along…

Chilly in the morning, however mode of transportation, i.e. bus or subway/tube, etc. is freezing… Then you hit the streets, lots of walking for an old gal, so I get heated up. Off comes the outer wrap and usually gets wrapped around my waist, over my shoulders or through the straps of my purse.

Into a café for coffee or restaurant for lunch… now I’m cold again, on goes the wrap, again. Oh, now more transportation or entrance into an exhibit, gallery or museum. Where are those tickets to board this particular mode of transportation?? Or were they on my phone? I’m digging through a purse or jacket pockets, and that jacket can be tied around my waist, or around my neck.

Now, Husband needs a Kleenex or hand sanitizer, I need chapstick… purse is strapped cross body, hanging in front of me… I have to take my wrap off to get to the purse, blah, blah, blah

It’s on again, off again, on again, off again. It’s FRUSTRATING!!

I come to realize that I need CARGO PANTS, in my travel wardrobe!

My husband has done it for years and it never even occurred to me to do the same.

Oh My Gosh!! What a game changer…

One pocket for paper products, i.e. map, ticket, passes, etc.

One pocket for money/coins

One pocket for personal products… chap stick, lipstick, maybe glasses, etc. or Kleenex, etc.

One pocket for identification/hotel room key/passport, if necessary.

No more crowding the table top in a small café with a purse, it’s not safe to put on back of chair, (rather dumb actually), nor is it comfortable with your purse in your lap. And god forbid a purse should be left or stolen YIKES, all of the above mentioned- LOST!!

If you can get the cargo pants with the zipper at the knee you can go from shorts to capris or long pants instantly. Makes for a couple of outfits or different looks when faced with a limited wardrobe.

Plus, I’ve found that Cargo pants are comfy, with stretch waists, they don’t wrinkle much, and can be very warm and some are water-resistant. So for that next trip to a cool, damp locale, this speaks volumes.

I discovered that when I’m booked for a jam-packed itinerary, Cargo Pants are an absolute must!

Why didn’t I think of this sooner??

Here’s an exaggerated look…. Or is it??
