Emergency!
Since we have some pandemic down time from international travel, now is a good time to learn a few phrases in the language of the next country you wish to travel. Take the time to learn their words for, “I don’t speak (fill in the blank), I am American. Learn the phrase for I need help/emergency or police/ambulance.
Also, please do the research and learn how to dial inter-country for their form of 911 service. It is NOT usually the same as ours.
Please don’t put instructions or phrases on your phone or rely on your translator apps. Memorize them or keep a small hand-written note in a pocket or safety-pinned to your bra, inside your jacket or in your shoe (whatever)! Phones are frequently lost, stolen, broken, out of battery or out of range/signal. Not all countries have the cell towers or priorities in which we are accustomed. Give forethought to a panicked situation.
