What Can A Desert Garden Do For You?
Create a sense of wonder.
How does something bloom when the degrees are above 100 for 100 plus days?
How does something grow, survive with only 7 inches of water a year?
How does something thrive in alkaline soil, slightly acidic with calcareous layer?
How does something stay alive and propagate in loam soil?
Prepare to be impressed
Well, for starters, most don’t realize that with exception of tropical soils, almost every world soil type is found in Arizona.
Most think the southwest desert landscape is made up of only cactus. A great deal of it is, but we can also grow some of the same flowers here that are grown back East and in the Midwest.
Southwestern gardening will cause you to be curious and at the same time you will be pleasantly and constantly surprised.
Gardening in the desert most certainly increases your patience as it presents you with challenges, too.
You’ll be in awe many times and will gain respect for these incredible plants, with their remarkable resilience.
A person close to me once said, why would you live in Arizona? It’s so brown there! Well, Not true. We have color all year long.
It will debunk the myth that we grow primarily succulents and palm trees.
You’ll be amazed by the desert plants unbelievable endurance.
You’ll learn that some plants are delicate while others are aggressive and practically indestructible.
Most that come to the desert for the first time are impressed at the incredible color and beauty.
No monotony here, as the variety of plants change seasonally. And as our diverse soil tolerates so much, we have different plant choices available from around the world.
When you’ve achieved your gardening goals you’ll be filled with pride and you’ll be popular with your neighbors because everybody wants a pretty well-maintained yard next door.
