GARDEN

What to plant during the midst of summer

Growing jelly bean plants (aka Pork and Beans plants) is easy and is recommended for the beginning gardener.. As long as you can give them what they need which is full to partial sun and temperatures higher than 20 degrees Fahrenheit, (neither a problem in AZ!)

A hardy, fun colorful succulent, good for extremely hot climates, easy to plant and it can be trained to sprawl into patterns.  Known as quite the companion plant, it will mix well with other succulents, rocks, flowers and tropical plants.

Part of the sedum/stonecrops fetus/family; it is subjectable to slugs, aphids, mealy bugs, so ventilation is key, so best to keep in pots (preferably ceramic for air circulation and ventilation), or hanging rather than in the ground.

Plant in spring, summer or fall; just be sure to keep in loose, damp soil for so it can breathe. ( ventilation)

Also, it can be grown from a cutting, so pass along to your succulent loving friends.

Jelly Beans have a tendency to get quite dense so pruning is a good idea to keep it healthy, plump and colorful.

Early morning or evening is ideal for watering so as to avoid the plants burning in the high/bright sunlight of the afternoon.

It doesn’t need much fertilizer so use only half of any (marketed suggested) liquid amount during growing season, but you can enrich the soil in the fall by applying mulch or compost .

Works well as cascading from large pots, over fences, and over large boulders. It is lovely as a ground cover and a nice filler in rock gardens..

Known to attract small birds.

This plant symbolism is peace and tranquility. It is a perennial so you can enjoy for years to come.

Just watch it grow expand and flourish.
